About Pat Ryan

As a husband, father, and therapist, I have had the honor of accompanying my spouse on our Foreign Service journey across three continents. Prior to this adventure, I worked at Wediko Children’s Services helping children and families struggling with emotional and behavioral challenges in Boston Public Schools and at a residential treatment center in New Hampshire. I graduated from Boston College with a BA in Political Science and later returned to earn a Master’s in Clinical Social Work and a Master’s in Business Administration. I love to cook and entertain, especially when I can work the grill. Exercise is a primary component of my self-care routine. I ride my bike and paddle board as often as I can. A native of upstate New York, I enjoy winter and hitting the slopes. Reluctantly, age encouraged me to hang up my rugby boots.

Clinically, I take a relationship and strength-based approach. I pull from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Trauma Informed Care, and Bowen family systems theory.

My specialties include:

  • ADHD and attention issues

  • Social skills deficits and ASD

  • Stress and anxiety

  • Relationship challenges

  • Depression

  • Loss and trauma

  • Anger management

  • Transitions

I am licensed as a clinical social worker in Washington D.C., Virginia, and Massachusetts and can provide teletherapy to clients in these states. I also provide teletherapy to Foreign Service Officers and EFMs abroad under Chief of Mission Authority.
